The California Cybersecurity Institute at Cal Poly shares the Aerospace Village’s mission of building an inclusive community of next-generation aerospace cybersecurity expertise and leaders.
We are thrilled to be supporting @SecureAerospace in the #AerospaceVillage at DEF CON 28 SAFE MODE.
This installment is a gamified satellite cybercrime challenge scenario developed by the California Cybersecurity Institute at Cal Poly intended for beginner-level participants. It is comprised of a multi-layered cybercrime plot written by student employees from Cal Poly, complete with complex characters, physical and digital evidence chains, and puzzles that challenge participants are required to search through and analyze to solve a satellite hacking crime. It is being deployed at the California Cyber Innovation Challenge 2020, the state championship for cybersecurity competitions in California, for teams of middle school and high school students this upcoming October. While traditionally held in-person using physical sets, the development team has built a virtual-immersive environment in AWS Sumerian. The challenge provides an engaging, immersive 3D experience for anyone interested in learning the basics of cybersecurity and space systems.
